Dear Sir, |
I would respectfully ask that
permission be granted Mrs John F. Wheaton to pass our lines at any
point she may find practicable either by flag of truce boat or
otherwise. A severe affliction has visited the family of Mrs Wheaton,
now living in the United States, and her sole desire in asking this
favor is to console with and aid her near relatives in their sole
trial. I will vouch for Mrs Wheatons loyalty and devotion to our
cause, her lot is voluntarily cast with us, and her husband is now a
captain of artillery battling for our rights and as I served with him,
when we were both privates at the inception of our troubles I can
speak with confidence that none but the purest motives activate this
request. |
I am, Sir, very respectfully |
Your obdt svt.
