I have read your order to Maj Genl Huger
about the iron on the Seaboard and Petersburg Rail Roads. With our
resources this would take many weeks and it would require several
days preparation before being able to commence, all cars are yet
loaded & scattered between here and Charlotte & after
obtaining the trains tools &c & organizing gangs of laborers
without many regiments to protect them it would prove an almost
impossible undertaking. I have saved all my engines and cars with
much material |
