|
Sir, |
|
Your letter of the 8th inst. postmarked today has been
received proposing a consultation with officers of Railroads as to means
of "improving the efficiency of Railroad transportation" and of
"arresting the deterioration of their roadways and machinery" as well as
of "preparing & applying" materials for reconstruction and repairs. |
|
It is gratifying to find the Government so far beginning to
appreciate the importance of this subject, and the great peril of
disastrous consequences to our armies, a conviction of which forced upon
Railroad Officers by their peculiar situation and experience has so long
weighed upon their minds with a painful solicitude, which lutherts(?) so
little or no hope of relief. I feel fully authorized to say for other
Railroad Officers as for myself, that from all a cordial
cooperation may be expected by the Government, in attaining the objects
of the proposed conference, of such vital importance to all as
citizens, as well as to the Government and its armies. |
|
I have the honor to be |
|
very respectfully your obt. Servt. |
