General, |
The present connection between the
R&P RRd {Richmond & Petersburg RR} and the RF&P RRd
{Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac RR} in this city ????? of the track
with Broad Street it describes so sharp a move that it presents as
great difficulties as the grade. |
I ????? speed was desirable it would not
be of the slightest benefit. |
A better connection would be made with
the Cent. RRd {Virginia Central RR} by taking down Cary street and up Thuckage creek. It
presents easy grades and curves. {It
would have been almost exactly one mile in length.} |
This new route is recommended because it
can be easily used by locomotives of any class and by bringing the
depots together, save the ????? of corn necessary for arrivals and
save us the wagon transportation ???. |

stating that the connection of R&P RRd and R.
F. & P. RRd is useless in account of heavy grade and recommends
that a connection be made from R&P RRd to Va Central by way of
Cary street and Shuckoe Creek. |

Approved and respectfully referred to Sec of War as
a decided improvement and one which would effect a decided saving in
wagon transportation. |

Respy, returned to Honl Sec. of War. A prompt
examination & verbal report was made in this connection. The
plan is very feasible but will require a very considerable amt. of
work. The work was considered too heavy at the time the question was
spnng to undertake it immediately, as a great deal of timber was
required over the Shoekoe Creek. Soon after, the necessity for the
work no longer existed. |
