Sir, |
Paymaster De Bree, C. S. Navy has brought to my attention
your letter stating that upon application to the Quarter Master at
Charlotte N. C. for transportation you were informed that he was
instructed by this office not to furnish transportation for naval
supplies. |
In regard to this subject, I beg to inform you that the
Quarter Master has misconstructed the instructions received by him from
this office, as no such orders were never by me. |
The Quarter Master General has no control over the Rail
Roads, and cannot control their action. |
So far as my authority extend, it will afford me pleasure
to accommodate the Navy Department whenever in my power. |
