Sir under the operations of martial law
wherein the population of the district are called out to drill as
well as the call for the militia or drill along the line of this
road the working of this road will be necessarily suspended if the
machinists from our workshops the overseer of yhe road way the
watchmen at draw bridges conductors enginemen & officers are to
be taken from their duty daily for militia drill etc. You will
perceive at once the consequences. I therefore have to ask that you
will exempt such persons of this Road from all military and other
duties so long as necessarily employed in the service of the
Confederacy. |
