To Hon James A. Seddon |
Secy of war C. S. |
|
Sir, |
The undersigned a citizen of Baltimore,
came to this confederacy in the commencement of the war in the
capacity of an engineer to assist in getting rail road engines off the
Balt & Ohio Rail Road. This is shown in Mr Sharps certificate marked
A. since that time up to the present, he has been making small arms,
or at work on Rail Roads & Government work as proven by papers B. C. &
D. {not found} He now desires to go to
Maryland that he may sell his property there & return with his family
to Wilmington N. C. and would respectfully ask permission to pass
through the lines of the C. S. Army into that state. Being an old man
and not in good health he has been desirous for some time past of
effecting this intention and only delayed it at the solicitation of
Messrs Leuher & White to assist them in finishing a bullet machine.
Hoping this request may be granted he subscribes himself very
respectfully a true southern man. |
