Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad Company
President's Office
Richmond, Nov. 25th 1863

Hon. James A. Seddon
Secretary of War

Sir,
To subsist the men employed by this Company in performing the transportation necessary to the army & people, this Company for weeks past has had Agents engaged in endeavoring to purchase supplies of food in the interior of this & other States They have as yet failed to procure more than half what is needed. Among the purchases made was one of from 300 to 400 bushels of wheat from Alexander Rives of Albemarle Co. Va., who informs me by letter, that he is prevented from delivering it by the Impressment Agent for that County of the War Department, who forbids its delivery; unless authorized by you. I therefore respectfully ask that the necessary direction may be given, exempting this wheat from impressment; and that, to save the necessity of future repeated applications to you, that this direction should comprehend other supplies, which may be purchased for the necessary subsistence of the employees of this Company.
With great respect
your obt. Servt.
P. V. Daniels, Jr. Presdt &c
