Sir, |
It is reported that the bridges over the Holston and
Watauga rivers, on the East Tennessee & Virginia Rail Road are
destroyed. |
I respectfully submit that if there be any
pontoon boats which can be sent to these points, it is very important
that they should be promptly forwarded. |
Very Respectfully |

There are 12 pontoon boats in Richmond. They need some
slight repairs. ??? ??? plenty wagons to transport these boats. Also 500
ft bridging ready for use. H. T. Douglas need 5 boats with him up the
country. I have telegraphed to the Qr Master at Gordonsville for
information & will report as soon as I get his answer. |

Respectfully returned to the Hon Sec. of War. It was found on enquiry
that the boats could not well be spared |
It is understood that the Watauga bridge is almost
completed & that over the Holston very well advanced. |
