Article of agreement entered into this day the 30th day
of Jan 1862, between Mess Shipp & Rhinehardt of Lincoln Co N.
Carolina {operators of the Spring Hill Forge} of
the first part and Wm Cooke Agent of the Ordnance Department of the
Confederate States of America of the second part. Witnessith that the
said Shipp & Rhinehardt of the first part doth hereby contract and
agree with the party of the second part to manufacture supply &
furnish to the order of the said Agent as follows: All the Pig Iron
that the said Shipp & Rhinehardt shall make in the next six months
(except twenty five tons to be delivered to ____) from date say twenty
eight tons per month. All accidents attended in the Manufactury of Pig
Iron to be excepted. The said Iron to be delivered at the Sharon
station of the WC&R R Road {Wilmington,
Charlotte & Rutherford RR} per week as it is made. And the
said Agent Wm Cooke on the part of the Confederate States doth promise
& agree to pay on delivery in Richmond for said Iron: the Sum of
Forty Dollars per ton; Whenever a car load is delivered it shall be
paid for promptly. Witnesseth our hands & seal this 30th day of
