I sent down 109 Negroes on the R. R. {San
Antonio & Mexican Gulf RR} yesterday & will add more tomorrow. I
hear that little work was done because of the idea that the order of
destruction would be revoked. As I write an overseer comes in just from
Lavaca & reports all the track about the Depot torn up, & that they have
been delayed by want of fitting crow bars, those I had made having given
away. There will be more despatch tomorrow. |
