Dear Sir, |
Seasoned wood is indispensable for running
the York River Railroad. I have contracts with parties to furnish a
supply sufficient for all our purposes, but owing to the recent call for
the militia and the impressment of servants, I have reason to fear that
these parties will not be able to comply. In order to plan the matter
beyond any contingency I have determined to hire slaves from beyond the
Rappahannock and employ them for the company in cutting & hauling wood
to the different stations, and to enable me to do this successfully, it
is important to have an overseer on whom I can rely. I prefer for this
service a gentleman named Thos Revere, who is a member of Capt. Ira B.
Cauthorn's Company, King & Queen Militia, stationed at Gloucester Point.
If compatible with the public interests, I would be glad to have him
detailed for that duty. |
Very Truly yours |
