Dear Sir, |
In compliance with the orders of the
Quarter Master General the accommodation train upon this road has been
stopped and four freight trains daily in each direction have been
arranged and put in operation for the transportation of Government
freight. Those trains can transport daily from Petersburg to Richmond
15000 bushels of corn {about 52 car loads -- 4
trains of 13 cars each} that thus far they have not been
supplied with freight to occupy them. On yesterday primarily freight
loads arrived but not one car load of freight only, freight
train No. 3 arrived with empty a train, and freight train No. 4
had nothing to transport, this morning, freight train No. 1
left Petersburg empty as there was no freight there. Can any
thing be done to keep our trains occupied, if not is it reasonable
that our accommodation trains should be stopped? We make no objections
to its discontinuance, but we desire that all our trains should be run
with compensating loads. |
Respectfully Yours |
