Sir, |
As you are aware the R&D RRd
is now occupied by the enemy who has traversed it from Burkeville to a
considerable distance above breaking up the track burning buildings
water tanks pumps &c. This I as President of the Road have no means to
prevent. It is however my duty to repair the injury & to open the road
at the earliest moment practicable. It is impossible to do this unless I
am permitted to keep the mechanics in this shop employed in building &
repairing that portion of the work necessary for running the trains. I
enclose from the Master Carpenter & Master Moulder of the Company in
shops in ??? a list of the mechanics now employed by the Company, for
whom do I ask a detail upon the point that the are not only necessary
but indispensable to the speedy opening of the road & repair of damage
done by the enemy. |
