Major, |
Your letters of 2nd & 8th Inst were duly recd. I directed
the depot Commissary to report the shipment of Coffee, received
through the blockade in Augt; and that the Beef and Pork, received
at same time, per Syren and Fox, has been used, of necessity. |
In this month, the Str Fox brought 48 Bags Coffee
{1/2 car load}, which was shipped to
Wilmington the 8th Inst. For the Navy department, the Fox brought 50
Tierces Beef & 50 Bbls Pork, the Syren 100 Bbls Provisions, the Stag
50 Bbls Port and the Druid 65 Tierces Beef. These were also shipped
to Maj Reid, Wilmington, on 8th Inst. {A
tierce was about 700 lbs and a barrel of pork or beef a bit over
300} |
I will report arrivals as directed; and nothing shall be
retained here, unless in case of absolute necessity. The agent of
the War Deptmt, J. D. Aiken Esq, suggests that you may readily
obtain, in Richmond, all the information you desire by applying to
Lt. Col. T. L. Bayne, to whom it is telegraphed as soon as it is
known here. |
Respectfully your obedient Servant |
