I have informed the Q. M. Genl. that a
Railroad costing fifteen thousand dollars can with 150 men be built in
8 to 10 days to connect this Road with horse boat navigation at
Milton. Supplies for the army can now be hauled across from Keswick {about
8 miles east of Charlottesville} a distance of three miles by a
Bad road but unless Genl Jackson is reinforced the enemy may be
expected to stop all communication by burning the Bridges at the
Rivanna |
