General, |
The letter of Lt Colo Elgee
with an endorsement upon it, By The Commanding General of 24th inst. in
relation to the inefficiency of transportation of Ordnance & Ordnance
Stores, has been received. In obedience to it I ordered Captains Dunalp
& Warren to proceed on Mobile & Ohio and also on New Orleans central
Rail Roads {New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern
RR} & collect scattered stores. |
I was warned of this
deficiency, On the 11th inst & ordered Lieut. Johnson C. S. Marine Corps
on the duty, who is at present travelling from place to place &
forwarding scattered stores, to their destinations. |
I also requested officers
forwarding supplies to send them by special messenger, the request is
complied with & I presume to believe the stores scattered, are those
forwarded from abandoned posts. |
Under those circumstances,
permit me General, respectfully to observe, that unless strict &
preemptory orders be given to each & every Agent on rail roads to
transport attentively & without delay the Ord & Ord Stores I do not
expect better result. |
Very Respectfully |
Your Obedt Servt |
