Genl, |
On the 4th inst I had the honor of making
you a report on the subject of repairing the Sabine Pass RRoad {Eastern
Texas RR}, the T&NO RRoad {Texas
& New Orleans RR} between Beaumont & Orange, the
Washington Co RRoad Bridge, and the building a Pontoon train to be
carried with the army. |
At the time I made the report, you stated,
that the Maj Genl wished all the work done, and I have since been
awaiting orders; and now, fearing that the constant demand on your
time, may have caused you to forget this matter, I venture to remind
you of it. |
Col Sledge {Superintendent
& Manager, Washington County RR}, to whom I have twice
written, as you requested, to ask whether he wished his Bridge
repaired, has not thought fit to reply. I think he wants to dodge the
question, hoping that the Government will make the repairs without his
consent, thereby enabling him to refuse, not only to reimburse them,
but to claim damage for such detention as may be caused to his trains
by reason of such repairs. |
Very Respy Yours &c |
