Capt., |
I am much gratified at the
energy which you have exhibited in sustaining Genl Lee's army by
shipments of corn from Georgia. It is impossible to over rate the
importance of this duty. We shall require from Georgia one hundred
thousand bushels {about 670 car loads} in
addition to the seventy-five thousand bushels of corn
{500car loads} ordered through you. Can it
be spared? Can you furnish it? Shall I send an officer from Virginia to
your assistance. The army is dependent upon your success in the
premises. I hope that you are making great progress in providing the
grain sacks ordered {300,000 sacks in one order
alone}. Report me weekly your shipments of corn and grain sacks,
the quantity of each in store and the points of storage. |
Very Respectfully, |
Your Obdt Servt. |
