Dear Sir, |
Four months since I requested
a friend in Scott County, this state, to purchase for me 80 or 100
Bushels of corn, and forward it to this place from Morton Depot on the
Southern {(of Mississippi)} R. Road via
Mobile, "care of Mess Sands & Co" at that place. It has never arrived at
Mobile, although my friend paid the freight on the corn at the time it
was delivered at the Depot. The first excuse of the R. Road Agent for
not forwarding the corn, was that the Confederate Government engrossed
the entire business of the road; the Second that the order of Genl
Pemberton prohibiting provisions to be shiped to Mobile from Missi,
render it impossible, on their part, to transmit the corn to care of Mrs
Sands & Co. Does your order prohibit corn purchased by a resident of
Harrison County, passing through Mobile from any other county in the
State? We are nearly destitute of bread stuffs on the Sea Shore and are
almost forced to get corn from the Mobile market or from distant
counties of Missi via that city. Will you be good enough to drop me a
line authorising my corn (for personal use) to be forwarded. |
As necessity has no value, I hope My Dear Sir, you will
be indulgent enough to forgive this intrusion upon your more
important time, and duties, on the part of a stranger, personally,
and believe me. |
Most respectfully |
Your obt Servt |
