Chf Clerk Produce Loan

Dear Sir,
Yours of around the 29th unlt & 1st inst at hand and noted. We have shipped to Wilmington of the 650 Bales {about 40 car loads} 463 leaving 187 yet to go which we hope and expect to get off this week, and then we will ship the 1200 Bales as rapidly as Transportation can be secured {about 75 car loads} . Capt Sims will furnish us one third the capacity of each cotton train leaving here for Wilmington. We will consign hereafter all cotton to A. S. Gibbs as directed. He has written us on the subject. We had to pay for compressing the 650 bales $26,110, leaving in our hands now only a balance of about $10,000 on account of Gov Cotton Purchase. This will be nearly if not quite absorbed for the payment of Storage, drayage &c on the 1200 Bales we are now ordered to ship. It will therefore be necessary for you to furnish us with funds to pay for compressing the 1200 Bales & expenses on cotton which you have ordered from Montgomery, & the compressment bills will be heavily, as 3 additional new ropes are put on every bale & where the old rope is not strong enough, new ones are supplied, also bagging when needed. It will be best to send for the above purpose at least ($100,000) one hundred thousand Dollars & send it immediately as the cotton press here collects their bills weekly. It will also be necessary to provide us with funds to send the Post Quarter Master, to pay for condensing small parcels of cotton, less than a bale, as directed in your letter of the 1st. This we suppose will be kept in a separate account. Please inform us when you send it to what account we must place it. We suppose from $15 to $20,000 will be sufficient for the present for this account. We do not think any tobacco is raised in Georgia, for sale, the extent is a few patches raised principally by & for Negroes, on the plantations. We will in a few days forward you the marks numbers & weight of the 650 Bales, as soon as the balance is shipped.
Yours truly
Phinizy & Clayton

We think best to have a Sub Agent at Albany Geo who can receive the monthly report of the Post Quarter Master & receipt for cotton collected by him, there & recommend for the place S. Thomas Esqr.
