I have purchased one thousand (100) tons rail road iron
suitable for wagon tires at twenty (20) cents per pound do you

{The "100" is likely in
error. For the iron to be suitable for wagon tires, it must have been
flat rail. If 35 pounds per yard, this would be enough track to lay
about18 miles, both sides. While various construction projects
(particularly the Piedmont RR) would have been happy to get the iron
to use for track, the need to use 125 cars to transport it across the
Confederacy made it out of the question. Some of this iron was
probably from the defunct Raymond RR.} |
