Dear Sir,
|
Will you have the kindness to inform me whether there
is a vacancy in your department that you would like to have filled
by a young man who was educated at the University of N. C. and who
has considerable experience in the use of instruments?
|
This young man has been assisting Col. Elwood Morris
for the last ten months on the Chatham R. R. in this state. Col.
Morris is an Eng. of some celebrity; he was for some time, about a
year ago, a Col. of Eng's on our coast at Hatteras and Beacon
Island.
|
This young man has lost two noble brothers in service
and now intends to do what he can for his country, either as a
private soldier or in whatever way he can be most useful.
|
It is unnecessary to send recommendations till finding
out whether there is a vacancy or not.
|
Will you sir, do me this little favor, as soon as you
can conveniently?
|
Most respectfully
|
J. M Johnson
