Colonel, |
On the 10th of Dec a lot of Leather,
some (60,000) Sixty Thousand pounds in amount
{3 1/3 car loads}, was shipped to me at Chattanooga via
Atlanta Ga by an agent of Maj Jones Huntsville Ala who from all I
can hear is I fear not coming along with the Leather. So much
property has been stolen lost or destroyed on that route that I
think it my duty to call your attention to the fact, and
respectfully ask that an agent be despatched to look up this Leather
and remain with it till it reaches this place. I beg to state that
the small expenditure necessary to effect this object would be
eminently judicious, and of great advantage to the Government. |
Respectfully &c |
