Condemned at Selma as worthless. These stores were
all correct in numbers on the 1st of January1864 and
were collected together and shipped in the cars
{of the Mobile & Ohio RR}
as carefully as possible, but in the confusion incident
to the evacuation, many were lost or stolen, as well at
the Post, as in course of transit via Mobile on the Boat
& at Selma, Whereby an explosion occurred on the boat
many of the Boxes were burst open and landed in that
condition on the Wharf at Selma. With a ??? of other
stores belonging to different parties. A messenger
accompanied every car. These worthy men, selected from
the mechanics in the work shop who used every exertion
to save the property in their charge and the loss can
only be accounted for under circumstances over which
they had no control. |
