I beg leave respectfully to
ask for instructions under the following circumstances. Our Agents in
the South, have within the last few months made large purchases for
this Department, almost all of which fall short of the weight sent us.
Last week we received a lot of Steel from Mr Ennis, Ga which fell
short 114 lbs, and a lot of Iron purchased from Brevard & Co fell
short 3000 lbs. There are various other instances of like character.
In most cases the goods are bought at the place of delivery by our
Agents and the vendors are not responsible after shipment. How then
are we to proceed to have the amount of the several deficiencies
deducted from the Rail R Co.s claims when settling with the Quarter
Master Genl? |
