Colonel, |
I am informed that a quantity of cross
ties of the Rail Road have been burnt at Fort Magruder for Fuel. It
is necessary by some means to prevent the destruction of the Rail
Road {Galveston, Houston & Henderson RR}
in this way. The Island City (steamboat) is in the hands of
the Quarter Master Dept for the purpose of furnishing fuel, but it
is unfortunately aground. ??? there is a scarcity of wood. If no
other means of providing it exists, I would respectfully suggest
that an extra train of the cars be employed at night for this
emergency, at the same time restraining the garrison of the forts as
much as possible from using the cross ties for fuel. |
I am Colonel, |
Very respectfully |
