Captain, |
Your dispatch of the 17th is received.
On the 27th of Oct. I wrote Capt Stewart requesting him to send 50
or 60 Hhds {hogshead} sugar to Maj J.
J. Locke, Savannah Geo. This I find from your dispatch has not been
done. You will request Capt Key to make up a Train of about one
hundred and fifty or seventy five Hhds of sugar, and send a
messenger with it; and seventy five Hhds you will have delivered to
Maj Locke and the balance to Maj N. C. Guion Charleston S. C. |
I can procure you here sometimes capable
messengers and if you lack one at any time let me know by Telegraph. |
Yours Very Respectfully |

{Hogsheads weighed about 1150
pounds when loaded with 1000 pounds of sugar. Therefore, the train
requested would require about 12 cars, if each could be loaded to
capacity with sugar.} |
