Captain,
Herewith you have a letter of instructions from Col. Bradwell respecting the shipment and care of sugar and molasses at Vicksburg.
I have to request that you will furnish me with a statement such as is called for in his letter at as early a day as possible, and on your arrival ascertain what quantity has been sent to Charleston Savannah and Telegraph me, and further keep me regularly advised of the shipments you make.
In all cases of shipments beyond this place you will procure a special messenger. Capt. W. O. Key A. Q. M. will provide for Transportation and the necessary funds. I would recommend not more than 200 Hhds {a complete train of 14 cars} be given any one the care of, and shipments of not less than one hundred.
I wish 300 Hhds sent to the Commissary here {by way of the Southern (of Mississippi) RR}. Capt. Jno. T. Shaaff select such Hhds as would not likely bear Transportation any great distance, and such a quantity as Capt. A. Stewart ACS at Vicksburg will want for his post, you will give him from the most inferior packages.
Yours Very Respectfully
W H Dameron
