Captain, |
Many of the boxes were in bad order when
I received them in Selma, and were evidently opened. I however
shipped them to Demopolis at which place nine (9) boxes were
forcibly taken by a Ms Regiment before the guard arrived. |
The RR Agent at McDowels Landing
informed me that several boxes was broken open at that place by the
Negroes employed by the RR Company at that place. He having caught
them in the act of taking the meat, one of the boxes of the lot of
one hundred & four was broken open by the Teamsters at Selma between
the ware house & the RR Depot, the Box called for 38 Hams & upon
examination only found 19. There was also one box missing of the
lost lot which I shipped from Selma, the RR Company receipted for
one hundred & four boxes and only delivered one hundred & three. |
Respectfully |
