Dear Sir,
|
You will take in charge at once 16 coal crates now at
this Arsenal & proceed with them with all possible dispatch to
Selma where you will apply to Major Wm. R. Hunt for coal or coke. The
crates you will understand are to be loaded crosswise on platform cars
& to be handled by teams across Montgomery & put on board
steamers for Selma. If Major Hunt cannot supply coke endeavor to have
half the crates filled by Captain Catesby Ap R. Jones Commdg Naval
Foundry at Selma. If he cannot furnish it fill all with coal.
|
I enclose letters to Captn Cothran A. Q. M. Columbus Ga
& to Major Harris QM Montgomery asking that you may be afforded
every facility in their power in the way of transportation.
|
It is a matter of the utmost importance that you hurry. Coke is coal
to Macon.
|
Very respectfully
