Major, |
Messrs. Adams' letter, with your
endorsement came to hand this morning. You need not fear troubling me.
It affords me pleasure to attend faithfully to my duties; although my
best directed efforts may (through no fault of mine) sometime fail. |
For several days past the transportation
of the V. & Ten. RR {Virginia &
Tennessee RR} has been taken up in forwarding forage for Genl.
Lee's Army, which course was pursued in consequence of an order from
the Genl. which (in view of the necessity of the case) would not admit
of delay; &, in addition to this, Genl. Arse's Brigade had to be
transported from Bristol, for which trains were occupied, in waiting
& otherwise, for four days. These obstacles being somewhat abated,
transportation will be regularly resumed. |
I have just telegraphed Messrs. Adams that
Five (5) Cars will be left at Christiansburg tomorrow to be loaded
with coal, and also to have them promptly loaded. Messers Adams notify
me when they are ready for cars, & I uniformly make requisition on
the RR, but, as remarked above, Sometimes circumstances beyond my
control intervene. |
Very Respy Yours |
