Capt, |
I herewith enclose a bill of timber for
pontoon bridges, which I wish to substitute for the one left by Mr
Howard with Maj Brooks. The former bill will not answer. Please have
this one sent to Major Brooks at once so as not only to stop
the other bill before it is all presented, & also to get the
lumber as soon as possible, as it is much needed here. I would not
trouble you with this matter, but no one else attends to requisitions
at Houston, with promptness, but yourself. Maj Brooks mill is about 7
miles from Houston on the T&NORR {Texas
& New Orleans RR}, but he lives in Houston on the east side
of White Oak Bayou. |
I have just recd an order from Genl
Magruder to repair all the roads between this place & the mouth of
the Caney {about 15 miles west of the Brazos
River}. There are no tools here. Please send me the number designated
in the accompanying list. |

Mr Wiggins, formerly Q M at this place
took to Houston, a fortnight ago, a piece of machinery belonging to Mr
Tinslay's saw mill, to be repaired. Tinsley is sawing lumber for the
pontoon bridges. The repairs were very slight, but nothing has been
heard from the machinery (the rod connecting the plunger of the pump).
It is probably either at the Tap depot {Houston
Tap & Brazoria RR}, as I learn it was there about a week
ago. It is much wanted here. |
