Office of Assistant QM |
Albany Ga January 13th 1865 |

Brig Gen A R Lawton QMG |

General, |
This post is too important to be left
under my control any longer. Thus far I have willingly discharged
the duties of Post and Depot and Transportation Quarter master at
it, in addition to that of Tithing QM, of this District just twice
as large as others in the state. |
The break in the Central
{of Georgia} RR has thrown thousands of
soldiers and immense freights to this point & the regulations
require me to receipt in person for every package shipped or
received. This and the arrival of Hospitals & other causes and the
possibility of it becoming Aent to move my Tithing head quarters the
wh?? It impossible for one person to hold them different officers;
besides this my health is becoming very poor under this double work
of my office. {He had spent many months out of
service because of pneumonia.} |
I most respectfully request that I may be
relieved of my duties as Transportation & Depot
{on the South Western RR} & Post Q. M.
at Albany and can continue alone in my position as Tithing Q. M. of
this, the 2nd Congressional District of Georgia, in the Tax in Kind
service. |

I remain General, with highest Respect, |
