Dr Sir, |
On the 14th April last I drew on Maj. E.
G. Mohler (then Qr. Mr. at Mobile) for ($21500 00/100) Twenty one
thousand five hundred Dollars in favor of Thomas Byrne Jr., in payment
for a Saw Mill & fixtures. Maj. Mohler promised to pay the Draft and I
supposed it had been settled, but I have just learned that the Draft is
still held by Mr. Jno. Johnson of Mobile & that Maj. Mohler left without
paying it. Mr. Johnson, or whoever legally holds the Draft, should be
paid, as the Government has long since had possession of the property,
for payment of which the Draft was given. I am authorized by the Q. M.
General to Draw upon any Qr. Mr. for payment of these (a copy of which
authority I herewith enclose) and would be glad if you would pay the
amt. as though the order were addressed to yourself. (Capt. Walker being
Dead, I have been duly appointed commissioner in his stead.( |
