Sir, |
I have the honor to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of the 11th inst informing me that "no
appointments are now being made to the Regular Army." As such is the
case can I hope to obtain an appointment upon active duty in the
Provisional Army. I am perfectly conversant with accounts and could make
myself useful in either the Quartermaster of Commissary Departments. For
the past sixteen months I have served the Confederacy faithfully as my
record will show and surely my past services should be a guarantee for
the future. I am cut off from all recomends from my own state and being
the first Marylander who organized a company in the service of
the Confederacy, I surely think that my application is entitled to some
consideration. You will find upon examination of the records that I
mustered a Company of Infantry into service as early as May 17th 1861
which goes to prove that my motives were pure and my sole wish to render
the cause what slight assistance I could. I am still willing and anxious
to do so, provided they give me the opportunity. |
I have the Honor to be |
Very Respectfully |
Your Obt. Servant |
