Lieut Colonel E. R. Dorsey served in the First Maryland Regiment of which I
was Colonel from the 16th of June 1861 up to the 17th of August 1862, when
the Regiment was disbanded by order of the Secty of War. His gallantry and
officer like conduct during the time were conspicuous and rising as he did,
Captain, Major and Lieut Colonel distinguished himself in each place.
Previous to joining the army he had large experience on the Baltimore & Ohio
Rail Road and his executive capacity and experience would be exceedingly
useful to the Government in many capacities. He was severely wounded at
Winchester while charging a retreating column of the enemy. |
