Mr. President, |
Some three months since, the
office of Chief of Transportation was made vacant by the resignation of
Major Wm S. Ashe Q. M. since which time I have been performing the
duties of that office. I now apply for the appointment of Chief of
Transportation. |
Personally I am known to the
officers of nearly all the Rail Roads in the Confederacy, am familiar
with the capacity of each road & the points where delays are most liable
to occur. |
Herewith I enclose letters
from some of the officers of Rail Roads, written shortly after Major
Ashe's resignation, recommending me as his successor. I also beg leave
to refer you to a letter written by Major Ashe on the 8th of August last
to the Secretary of War and now on file in the War Office. |
I am Sir |
Very Respectfully |
Yr Obdt Sevt |
