| I have just returned from
break on Montgomery & West Point Road & find upon my Desk an order from
Sect War assigning me to 2nd Miss Cavalry. I will proceed on quest of
that Regiment (which I believe is in Army of Tenn) so soon as I can
learn from Maj Whitfield what disposition I shall make of my RRoad
stores & unsettled business. I write him this day. Maj Whitfield
presumed that Genl Polk's order would be sufficient to hold me, but has
now made application to yourself or Col Sims for my regular assignment
to him as Assistant but as I have no authority to delay the execution of
present orders will leave so soon as the business can be gotten in ship
shape. I will forward my 2nd Quarter Papers in a few days. |
