Sir, |
Capt C. M. Williams AQM was
ordered last March by Gen Polk to report to me and has been of great
assistance in the reconstruction of the various Rail Roads on which I
have worked. I desire very much to retain him if possible. He was left
by me at Meridian when I came here to work on this Road
{Montgomery & West Point RR}, & he
telegraphed me today that the Quarter Master Gen has written to Maj
Young that he with others would be ordered to Regts & that if I require
assistance I must apply to Richmond. I did not think this necessary when
he had been ordered to report to me by Gen Polk. Will you be so kind as
to make the explanation to the Quarter Master Gen why it is that Capt
Williams is with me and if possible have him ordered to report to me
permanently. I would like to have one officer at Canton Miss & one at
Selma Ala, & I will remain at Meridian or at least make that point my Hd
