General, |
The Richmond & Danville and Piedmont
Railroad Companies have been compelled to pay the most exorbitant
prices for cars and locomotives to perform the Government
transportation. This unexpected a?? is so great that the rate now paid
for Govt work does not compensate them and I have been compelled to
offer an increased tariff to meet their enlarged expenses. |
I have proposed, and L. E. Harvie Esq
President of both these roads agrees to a tariff (50%) fifty per cent
in advance of the Columbia rates established on the 13th April last to
take effect on 1st May. |
Your approval of the agreement is
respectfully asked. If the Road is subject to the interruption of
raiding parties these prices will be insufficient as the rent of the machinery
continues, while it is carrying comparatively nothing. But for the
present the rates proposed will be satisfactory. |
I am General |
Very Respectfully |
