I have the honor to request
that you appoint J. M. Hottle a commissary with the rank of Capt. He
was a volunteer in Col Terrys Regt of Texas was elected a lieut but
detailed & appointed to duty on R Roads from Boling green. He ran
engines repaired engines & superintended the RRs controlling
transportation for Genl Johnston army & being generally successful
finally he got here bringing out sugar last winter and had been kept by
me until made subservient to Col Wadley. He has been doing most valuable
work with little pay not at all adequate to his support. If possible as
asked He will continue on his present duties in the sphere of utmost usefulness to this Bureau
& the service generally. |
He is now without a dollar and has been long doing the
duty of a commissary officer tirelessly & zealously He first came
into the service of this Bureau last year. Justice would instruct that
his appointment should date at least from the 1st of Jany 63.
