Major, |
In reply to your communication of this date relating to the amount of
transportation required for shipment &c. of Gov. Stores connected with
this Arsenal, I beg to state, that as all kinds of ordnance stores &
supplies are manufactured and received at & forwarded to the various
armies in the field from this arsenal the amount of transportation, both
local & RRoad is necessarily very great. |
Artillery, Arms Equipments & Ammunition are daily Shipped to the Army in
large quantities -- on an average about fifteen drays per day are
necessary to receive & ship the Stores & Attend to the Local
Transportation between the different Establishments of the Arsenal. |
In arriving at the bulk or amount of daily shipments, by reference to
my Books for last month, February, I find that the average daily
shipments alone amount to from ten to fifteen tons -- Some days up to
twenty five tons -- others not so much, to say nothing of the
transportation of material & manufactured articles from and to the
various establishments of the arsenal. In this connection I beg to
assure you that under your supervision every demand made for
transportation from this arsenal has been most promptly complied with. I
feel grateful for the assistance you have rendered me in supplying the
army in the field. |
