General, |
To supply a limited addition to the narrow
guage rolling stock between Wilmington & Weldon and to secure
about one hundred miles of good railroad irons, and at the same time
do no injury to Government transportation, and but little to the
people, I would suggest the immediate seizure of the Eastern Division
of the Wilmington, Charlotte & Rutherford Railroad. |
It will give iron and machinery where it
is badly needed, and the road is of so little importance that it must
be despoiled before long -- the sooner the better for
transportation. |
I am, General, |
Very respectfully |

I strongly recommend the taking the iron
&c of the W. C. & R. R. R. It is the only heavy iron available
for the wants of the Government. Chas. F. M. Garnett |
