| Your favor of the 10th is at hand and I am
congratulate you on the efficiency with which you have repaired the
roads under your charge. The honor of it belongs to yourself and Major
Hottel and not to the department, and I am glad that the officers with whom
you ??? ??? appreciate it. The Engineer Bureau however was very ??? about these
matter & I told Genl. Gilmer Chf Eng Bureau that we would not take
charge of repairs
in future. The ??? necessary for t?? ??? and this ??? really belongs
to that
department. In future before taking hold of such things inform the
Genl. & of the position ??? in Richmond. If he then orders you
must ??? to do the best you the ??? had terrible fl?? beyond that
damaged ??? ??ly but we ??? all right bargain. |
