Genl, |
The bearer pvt F. N. Burruss of Co D 19th
Va Battn Heavy Arty was detailed through the QM Dept and ordered to
report to Capt Talcott, who transferred him to me. The detail was for
sixty days and Capt Talcott has already applied for a renewal of the
detail. Mr Burress services are indispensable to the successful
operation of the Telegraph Line between Richmond & Greensboro &
consequently of the R. R. as all the trains are run by telegraph. Mr
Burress has charge of the repairs of the line &c. Both Capt Talcott &
myself are called away on business connected with the forward change in
the guage of the North Carolina RR. Mr B. will therefore be left in
charge of the lines. In view of these facts I most respectfully urge
that if in your power, his detail may be hurried forward a{nd}
such papers be given him that will ensure his attention to his duties
without leaving the charge of absence without leave. Mr B. has just
returned from the Piedmont RR. Also he has been for some time repairing
that line. |
