In obedience to your Circular of Octo 1st,
1864, I have the honor to make the following report Viz: |
In November last upon recommendation of an
Examining Board my duties were changed for the benefit of my sight,
which was very seriously injured in the service. I was then made
Receiving and Forwarding Transportation Officer of this Post, with
instructions to provide trains, and see to the speedy and prompt
embarkation of troops, and provide transportation for all supplies
being shipped. |

In addition to the above, transportation
was provided for over 30,000 Troops moving in large detachments. The
Mail from the War Dept. and Genl Lee's HdQr is also forwarded through
this Office, by Couriers, 3 of which are constantly employed. |
The Office is never closed to business day
or night: I have in all 15 Clerks & employees, most of whom are
"disabled" or assigned for light duty, they are unable to
perform the same duties of a smaller number of well men: I am happy to
state that my sight has improved and will it is hoped continue to be
so. |
