Dear Sir, |
I have just heard that an injunction has
been granted to prevent the C. S. from taking up the iron on the
Western Branch of your road. I am sure the directors of the W. N. C.
RRd Co cannot misunderstand the necessity for rails or they would not
interfere or obstruct to their being taken. It is time I was not
directly responsible for the obtaining of additional rails, but
indirectly I have a very great responsibility in the delivery of
supplies, & it is this which instigates my respectful entreaty. If
the tardy decision of our courts are to be waited for, in this serious
time our armies will suffer and all military movements retarded and
probably frustrated. Of course there can be no blame to those
gentlemen for protecting the trust reposed in them, but under such
circumstances, it would be a gamble as well as a patriotic act to
waive all further objections. |
If convenient please hand this to your
President & I hope it may influence them to take such a stand with
the observation and will bring the matter to a speedy
settlement. |
Yrs Very respy |
