Enclosed I send for your consideration a
copy of a communication of Nov 27th /62 from Capt. George E. Walker of
the Pl Engr Corps applying for a transfer, in which the following
sentence occur -- "my report on the Defences of Mobile has been
discontinued by order of Genl. Leadbetter. |
On the 18th of Oct 1862 instructions were
sent from this Bureau to Capt Walker enclosing special orders No 243 of
the Adjutant & Inspector Genl's office directing him to "examine and
report upon the Defences of the Alabama River especially in the vicinity
of Mobile." |
If not opposed to the views of the Hon
Secretary of War, cannot Genl. Leadbetter be directed to withdraw his
order to Capt. Walker to discontinue his report, which is much needed
for the enlightenment of this Bureau. |
