Colonel, |
I have the honor to ask that an additional
Qr Master be ordered to report to me for duty in connection with the
Settlement of Transportation Accounting -- also for authority to
employ four additional clerks. |
The order of the Q. M. General placing me
in charge of the accounts of all the R Roads in the Confederate
States, except those west of the Chattahoosha River authorized me to
select such of the assdeting or mantins and trnsp. clerks, as might be
necessary to assist in the performance of my duties. Upon inquiry I
was informed that all such Qr Masters with the exception of Captain
Frizzill, had been appointed to important duties from which they could
not be spared. I at once applied for Captain Frizzill, as also for
Captain Peyton, who I was informed could be spared. The formers, alone
have been assigned me -- nor have I been able to procure a single
clerk from the various auditing officers. This statement is not made
in a complaining spirit, but to show the necessity for the additional
officers asked for. The duties and responsibilities devolved upon me
are onerous and cannot be satisfactorily discharged unless I am
furnished with a capable and sufficient force. |
Very respectfully |
